A Few Travel Tips

Florence, like Italy in general, is a very family friendly place but here are some quick tips that will be useful if you are planning a trip. Italians and Italian culture is very family oriented, so they are used to accommodate small children and their needs. Don’t afraid to ask for things regarding you baby or child, they will be happy to comply!

For example, restaurants always provide options for kids but even if they don’t you can simply order pasta al pomodoro, pasta con burro or cotoletta and patatine fritte! Even the pickiest of eaters will surely be happy. Speaking of ordering food, English is usually spoken throughout the country, especially in areas popular among tourists. That said, it can be useful to pick up some Italian before you leave, just to make sure you will be able to communicate correctly- plus, it’s such a beautiful language! You could for example take an online Italian course via apps like Babbel to become conversant and easily communicate with locals.

When in Florence, many choose to indulge in shopping and buy leather goods, a traditional artisanal art this area is famous for. Be careful of counterfeit items and be sure you are buying authentic ‘made in Italy’ products.

Finally, the best time of year to visit. The climate is Mediterranean and therefore can get pretty hot in the summer months. Locals tend to flee cities in August, making it a pretty good time to explore with less people around.
